Flagger | Idaho State Certification
Description
Earn your Idaho Flagger Certification with Evergreen Safety Council!
Become certified as a Flagger in Idaho through Evergreen Safety Council. This instructor-led, 8-hour in-person course prepares you to safely control traffic through temporary traffic control (TTC) work zones while protecting both workers and the traveling public.
Students who successfully complete the course and pass the certification exam will receive an Idaho Flagger certification that is valid for 3 years and accepted in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and Montana.
Per Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) requirements, this course is offered in person only.
✅ Before You Book
Before registering, please make sure you meet the following requirements:
You must be at least 18 years old to receive an Idaho Flagger certification.
You must bring a valid photo ID to class. A state- or government-issued ID (such as a driver’s license, state ID card, or passport) is preferred.
Flagger work has physical demands. Please review the Flagger Physical Requirements before registering. Your employer may have additional or different requirements.
💡 What You’ll Learn
This 8-hour certification course combines instructor presentation, class discussion, activities, and knowledge checks to prepare you to work safely as a certified flagger.
Topics include:
The requirements for becoming a flagger
The agencies and regulations that govern flagging
The clothing and equipment that you’ll need to have on the job
What goes into setting up a Temporary Traffic Control (TTC) zone, including warning devices, spacing, and where a flagger fits in
Flagger placement and how to signal using a STOP/SLOW paddle, flashlight, or red flag
How to keep yourself and others safe in the work zone
Special situations such as flagging at intersections, roundabouts, and railroad crossings
🧑🏫 Course Format
This instructor-led course is held in-person at locations around Idaho. Please arrive 15 minutes before class to allow time for check-in.
📙 Student Materials
Students will receive a copy of the Flagger Handbook at the beginning of class.
🪪 Certification Requirements
To earn your Idaho Flagger certification, you must:
✅ Attend the entire 8-hour course.
✅ Present a valid photo ID.
✅ Meet the minimum age requirement.
✅ Successfully pass the open-book certification exam with a score of 80% or higher.
After meeting the requirements above, a digital copy of your certification will be emailed to you and can be printed or saved digitally on any device. The printed copy of your certification will be mailed to the address you provide during registration.
Retests
If you do not pass the exam, ITD requires you to retake the entire course.
